Drunk? Please don’t call me!

Posted by Ria

I have never understood the connection between drinking and cell phone use. But after watching this video I realized I am just as guilty of this as the next person. I can spend most of my airtime when I’m drunk… contacting all the dormant clandestine men on my phone book.

Last Friday I was out with this pal of mine… having a drink or two. It ended up being quite a night not the one or two quick drinks we had planned on. My pal suddenly started telling me about her ex and how when she was with him she was doing him a a favor. According to her story, the man is unlovable and didn’t deserve someone as nice as her.

Anyway,, after having had several too many, she excused herself to go to the restrooms. What she was really doing was calling the ex and telling him he’d made the biggest mistake of his life when he lost her. A little later the alcohol in her head decided she had to get some from her ex… remember the guy who she said around 2 hours ago wasn’t good in bed? She started calling him every other minute till he ended up turning his cell phone off. If the sight of her sitting there with snot hanging from her nose, crying and clutching her cell phone like it was the last thing she would ever see on earth made me think she looked pathetic, I wondered what the guy on the other end of the phone was thinking!

Finally, I managed to get her off the phone and home and in the morning when I asked her about it, she said she would never go back to the guy and it was just one of those things you do sometimes when you’re drunk.

So why do people call their exes when drunk? Is it that it’s the only time they feel they can get back together? Do they feel that it’s the only time they can say what they truly feel? Is it true that “Dutch Courage” helps when you need to say something about your relationship whether it be with an ex or your current love? Why not sleep it off and call the next morning when the temporary insanity has left you?

Of course, you could try to tell me that when I’m drunk. Trust me, my reasoning won’t be this sane. I’d probably hurl insults at you and tell you “Oh! So now you want him for yourself?

Hey! Don’t blame me, blame it on history - 35 000 B.C. ;-)

  1. Sad tale Coco. Hope u got your number changed….

  2. It’s a phenomenon known as “drunken dialing”. People get drunk and then call people who they have unfinished business with and ramble on drunkenly trying to resolve things.

  3. Will drunken dial for free - just send me your phone number Mossimo! ;-)

  4. Sure thing Fala, check your email!!

  5. I understand Fala…it’s a sad way to deal with unresolved issues.

  6. That is so true Coco.

  7. A lot of people who identify themselves as alcoholic admit to drinking and dialing. While it is no excuse, alcoholism is a disease and alcoholics deserve our prayers (and sometimes a restraining order - tough love!!!)

  8. Too much alcohol & things buried in your brain will come right out of your mouth. I can’t deal with drunken foolishness, especially since I am always driving. Taking care of a friend or girlfriend who drank too much is not a fun time for me. Talking to someone who is drunk is frustrating, so I just don’t bother anymore. Drinking & having a good time, (not to excess) can be fun, but my friends are so busy with kids & work & have so little time that they go overboard when we finally do go out to a club or concert. I guess buzz-dialing is ok.

  9. ok, so i must admit that i always end up either calling or txting my ex after i’ve had a few (i don’t even bother 2 wait until i’m drunk)- usually i want to talk to him while sober but i stop myself a lot of the time, i’ve never really got over the fact that we’re not together anymore and i’m not sure how i will so until then i’m probably gonna keep chatting to him (we’re still friends). i think he’s used to it now and almost kinda expects it

  10. so I have got to the point of drunk calling that I should see a councillor…I feel sorry for this girl in the story, but she reminds me so much of me umm I got a message last night from my guy friend asking me to delete his number and the calls in the early hours of the morning were ridiculous as he had to work that day. My boyfriend has to turn his phone of when I get drunk as a ring him a lot…And every time I drink whether it be friends or family I always wake up feeling like shit wondering why I did it
It is pathetic. What can I do to stop this behaviour?
