What??? He is Black/White/Hispanic?

Helloz from Ria everyone!

There was a story in the paper last week about a man who is charged with masterminding the contract killing of his daughter-in-law. The twist to this story is the alleged hit appears to be racially motivated – the father-in-law is from India and the daughter-in-law was African-American. (Here’s the full story.)

So it just got me thinking: Do today’s parents accept interracial dating? Is it a big deal to bring home somebody not of your race?

If you don’t approve of persons from certain races, how are you letting your teens or kids know this? Is it through subtle messages or are they outright forbidden?

And at the very end, what is that can make parents so afraid of their kids dating outside their own race? Is it a social stigma that exists, or is the prejudice of their own times that takes over and cloaks judgment?

Can love be binded by color? Or it’s simply a matter of “No Guts no Glory? ie if you don’t attempt it you wont get it?

What you all think about that? Would you and your immediate cycle of friends and family allow their kids to date outside their race?

  1. I want my child to date whoever makes them happy.

  2. Hopefully, my children can date whomever they want. Their mom is from a culture that doesn’t accept this easily. Time will tell….

  3. When it’s time for me to be a parent, I will teach my children to create a life they can live with, even if I may not always agree with it. In the end, life belongs to the individual. My family and friends, on the other hand, are still stuck in that color trap. I think it limits love’s capacity to love and limits the individual’s capacity to be loved. The person who can love you the way you want may sometimes be the least expected person. So we have to be open to all possibilities.

  4. I’m hispanic and my fiance is white. My parents, as well as his, could care less.

  5. my parents wouldn’t say it but they wouldn’t like me going out with someone not in my race, they are pretty much close minded because there experience with different people is limited to very few ppl out of a small town which is nearly all white

  6. My parents do not mind that I have friends who are from other races - and they have welcomed most into their home..but I think they draw the line as far as who I choose to marry, have kids with etc. I don’t think they would go as far as hiring someone to kill my husband etc - but it would definately be a hurdle that I would have to overcome.

  7. We should be pass that

I agree We should be passed this, but I have to say living in the US all my life and witnessing other countries discuss issues of race….it’s basically non-existent when we compare them to the US.

I think in North America, we’ve been stifled by finding our differences and dwelling on them for many years now. When you read stories like these, it makes you wonder,.. does every race/culture harbor some form of ill-will or hostility towards another?

Change is evitable but slow change is progress but also very frustrating.

    Take Care…
