4 Ways Your Car Makes a First Date Impression

Posted by Ria, 26 Jul

Love it or hate it, your car will always be a part of your dating life. It's a tool that makes a first impression every time and, unless you rely on public transportation, there's really no way around it. While some think the only way to impress a first date is to pick them up in a luxury car, that is not the case. An affordable car can make a good impression just as easily. Follow these simple rules to make sure your car is ready for your next date.

Clean the Outside

Above all else, your car needs to be washed and clean. Even if your first date is at night, a dirty car will show. If it rains the day of your date, you should take the time to run it through a quick car wash, assuming the rain has stopped for the evening. If you're pressed for time, download an app like Squeegy that will find and summon a mobile car wash team to your driveway, office parking lot, etc.

Clean the Inside

This should be a no brainer, but it's sad how neglected the cleanliness of the inside of the car can be. You don't need an interior detail before each date, but you should run down the basic checklist when cleaning up your car's inside:

  • Clear out the clutter: There's no reason to have bags, clothes or any other large items hanging around in your cabin or even your trunk. Get it all out of there.
  • Ditch the trash: Wrappers and receipts look sloppy and disorganized when they're in the console, cup holders or on the floor.
  • Give it a vacuum: Your carpets and seats should be as clean as your clothes. Stop by a self-service car wash and vacuum out the dirt and/or hair.
  • A little shine never hurt: Take some car wipes and give your dash and console a light wipe down. Be careful not to overdo it and make the inside of your car a grease trap.

Evidence of Bad Driving

We all hop curbs and skid the walls from time to time, but evidence of bad driving could be very off-putting to your date. A bad driver is perceived as out of control on the road and in life, and even if that isn't the case, first impressions are everything. Try to patch up any scratches or dents on the body and make sure to replace tires that are worn down and scuffed (some good quality all-season tires are best).

Make It Sale-Worthy

At the end of the day, treat your car like it's for sale. Would you show it to a potential buyer with dirt on the paint and trash in the backseat? Of course not, so use the same rule with your next first date - and you just might get a second one.
