Does it matter what race someone chooses to identify with?
Former NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal says she's identified as Black since she was 5 years old... until her parents stirred up controversy when they revealed that she is White.
Dolezal stepped down Monday as president of the Spokane, Wash., branch of the NAACP because of questions about her racial identity. Some people feel that she has been deceiving people to advance her own professional goals... duping them to believe she was black or mixed race. And even when people made the assumption that she is black or mixed race, she admits she never discouraged them.
Dolezal also feels its not plausible to identify as white and be a mother to her black son saying: “I certainly can’t be seen as white and be Izaiah’s mom.”
