Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani has passed away aged 66, following a year-long mystery illness.

"She made Italian Vogue a powerful and influential voice in the worlds of fashion and photography by publishing ground-breaking photography and journalism. The greatest fashion photographers looked to Franca as the creative leader who would give them the freedom and the scope to produce their best work and they did so, month after month."

The celebrity tributes also came flooding in on various social networks, no doubt to thank her for inspiring their fashion choices throughout their careers…

Victoria Beckham wrote:

"I had the privilege of spending time with Franca over the years. Not enough time as it now so sadly transpires. Whenever I was with her I was mesmerized by her strength of character, her charitable work, her creative vision. She encouraged me and inspired me whenever we spoke. What a legacy she leaves behind."

Kanye West also chimed in, Tweeting the following:

“Franca Sozzani was always so nice and sincere. You will be deeply missed. Vogue US ed-in-chief Anna Wintour’s message was perhaps the one that got us the most… Franca was warm, clever, funny, and someone who could give the Sphinx a run for its money when it comes to keeping a confidence. She was also the hardest-working person I have known, and with an envy-inducing ease with multitasking."

RIP Franca Sozzani – thank you for everything you have done for art and fashion over the years. You will be sorely missed!
