"This Is A Really Cool Opportunity To Represent Black Men"- The Real Reason Behind Those Moonlight CK Underwear Ads
Last week, Calvin Klein revealed that Oscar-winning movie, Moonlight's actors snagged a major fashion ad campaign.
Yep! Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Mahershala Ali – i.e. the first Muslim Actor to win an Academy Award – and his equally brilliant Moonlight co-stars Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhodes and Alex Hibbert all landed a Calvin Klein Underwear ad campaign.
They showed us the sizzling Calvin Klein Underwear spring 2017 ad campaign featuring these leading men.

And today, we learned the real and very moral reason why Mahershala Ali, Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhodes and Alex Hibbert jumped at the chance to strip off and pose for the pictures…
"Any time I found myself in situations of affluence, opportunity or access, I was often the black guy," said Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Mahershala Ali.
"So to see a campaign flush with black faces being marketed to the general public, and not just the black populace, is somewhat groundbreaking."
Trevante Rhodes also weighed in, saying that he found the ad campaign to be an extension of the Moonlight film itself…
"It's great to see yourself represented in all mediums,” he added. “I think it represents the minimizing of an ideal we as an industry have held onto for too long—out of fear. I believe the win coupled with the campaign hits those prejudices in the mouth."
21-year-old Ashton Sanders agreed…
"This is a really cool opportunity to represent black men," he said. "It's ironically one and the same—they kind of coincide with each other…which is actually pretty rare."
We love how Moonlight and the CK ads complement each other so brilliantly. Calvin Klein really has worked its magic here to produce one of the most significantly ground-breaking advertising campaigns we think we’ve ever seen. Pats on the back for everyone!
