Engaged April 2012
Absolutely Awesome
The man with the username “Lil’ Wayne25” was not the same ethnicity as rapper Lil Wayne, but that suited Shalonda just fine. And he had plenty of star quality, as well. “He was very handsome in his pics,” she tells us. “My type: tall, beautiful hair, beautiful skin and so on. And I love that he was a country guy!”
It’s true—Lil’ Wayne25 was far from spitting rhymes like his namesake. Behind this dating profile was Dennis, a single guy looking for an intelligent but down-to-earth gal. He’d only been on our site for four days when the Flirt from “Summerbug” came in. Scoping her out, Dennis liked what he saw. “She was beautiful, and I loved her profile,” he says.
It took Shalonda two years on our site, off and on, to find a connection like this. “I loved the conversations we were having on the phone,” she says. “I felt like he was someone I was looking for.” Dennis agrees. “The conversations were great. She was very smart, articulate and definitely what I wanted.”
Meeting face-to-face, both singles were struck by the powerful feeling of physical attraction. “He was cool, tall and handsome,” Shalonda recalls. Dennis felt the same way. “She was gorgeous, and I felt lucky [to be there]. She was just as beautiful and sweet as her pics were. Or better!”
Many first dates are superficial “getting to know you” sessions. This one was different. Shalonda was amazed at how good “our chemistry was and how much he opened up to me. We talked about everything the first night.”
Dennis was surprised by the intensity of his feelings after just one date. It also caught him off guard “how attracted to her I was and how I fell so hard at first sight. Everything about her is absolutely awesome!”
As the relationship developed, Shalonda found her assessment of Dennis’ profile hadn’t been complete. The real guy had many more wonderful qualities than his online persona promised. “He’s very sweet, sensitive with a big heart,” she gushes about her man. “He always puts me first.”
Dennis is very happy in his new life with Shalonda, which he says has “dramatically” improved his state of mind. “This is the first time I’ve ever felt this way,” he says. Their comfortable routines are just what he always wanted. “She loves to be at home with me, watching movies, cooking and all those good things.”
The relationship also marked another first for Dennis. “It’s the first time I’ve ever decided I wanted to get married,” he says proudly. It’s true—Dennis decided to take the plunge and ask Shalonda to be his wife. “He proposed to me on his knees after he moved here with me to Dallas, Texas from Florida,” Shalonda says.
Is Shalonda happy to be in a committed relationship that’s bound for the altar? “I love it,” she says. “It has its challenges, but I love it. I feel like I found someone to love me for me. And he always has my back.”
Looking back at their previous dating experiences, Shalonda and Dennis know they met many Mr. and Ms. Wrongs before finding each other. Romances that go nowhere, singles who stretch the truth and other disappointing outcomes are sometimes an unavoidable part of the process. “Keep trying and don't give up because of anyone who seems like they’re full of it,” Shalonda advises. “[If that happens] just cut it off as soon as possible. Don’t get discouraged!”
Dennis concludes our interview with these words for members of our site. “Give it a chance,” he urges singles. “Don't give up. I never thought it could happen to me!”
