Posted by Ria, 28 Dec

You want to enhance your weekend trips with your partner, so they may include more novelty and adventure. However, you have little experience "roughing it" in the great outdoors and are daunted by the thought of a completely immersive camping experience. Luckily, glamping has been on the rise for the past few years and is available in countless locations around the world. Here are the details on glamping, so you can plan the perfect weekend getaway together.

What is Glamping?

Glamping is a "glamorous camping" experience where you can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the outdoors without sacrificing luxury accommodations. Some of the best hotel accommodations lie within the urban areas and their loud and bustling surroundings do not provide the most relaxing vacation environment. Glamping allows you an escape from the stresses of a city, where you can enjoy the wonderful hospitality of a hotel in a natural and serene setting. Glamping is for those who are weary of an intensive outdoors experience, though also is suitable for nature enthusiasts who seek a special vacation. There are companies that can help you create a DIY glamping trip as well as established glamping destinations all around the world. It's a great opportunity to get in touch with nature and each other.

Glamping destinations and accommodations come in all shapes and sizes. The most popular accommodations are tree houses, yurts, teepees, canvas tents, vintage trailers and house boats. In Eastern Washington, the Cave B Estate Winery offers a yurt experience where the guests can glamp within the beautiful desert vineyard. The vineyard estate houses a spa and restaurant for its guests (consider a couple's massage) and is located next to the Gorge Amphitheater which is host to a number of popular concerts (schedule your trip for when one of your favorite bands is in town and go to a concert together). Lake Tahoe and Lake Shasta residents and hospitality companies rent out houseboats for their visitors' enjoyment. Some of these luxury houseboats offer a home theater system, full bar, hot tub, tube waterslide and space that can accommodate up to 26 people. Ojai, California, is the ultimate glamping destination and is a popular spot for parties, wedding celebrations and special, romantic getaways. El Capitan Canyon, near the Ojai region has a wide variety of fully furnished tents and yurts for your luxury camping trip. You can also create your own glamping experience with the help of Under Canvas Event — the company will help set up the spacious safari tent as well as its furniture and king-size bed.

Glamping Gear

While many of the necessities you will need throughout your vacation will likely be provided for you, there are still a few things you should pack. Look up the weather conditions of where you'll be staying - the tent or yurt may be heated or air conditioned, however you'll want to have the appropriate apparel for any outdoor activities.

If you're headed to camp in an RV or camper, be sure your tires are aligned and checked for air pressure before heading out. There's nothing like ending up stranded in a remote location with a flat to ruin a romantic weekend getaway. Your best bet is to invest in a quality brand of tires like Michelin. Also, check the oil and other fluids. Your mode of transportation there is your most important asset. Don't forget to pack a sense of adventure and willingness to try new things!

Take advantage of your natural surroundings while you are glamping. If you and your honey escape for the weekend to a glamping vineyard retreat, spend a day with the winemakers and learn about the process of harvesting and barreling. End the educational and exciting day with the sensual experience of wine tasting. If you're near a lake or river, look into kayak rentals or any water sport activities you can participate in. Since you're in a new environment, explore and enjoy all the wonderful things it has to offer.

Definitely going to try glamping. I quite like the idea of a treehouse. Only prerequisite is warm weather.....
