Interracial marriage Moonies style

Can you imagine trusting your parents to find you a marriage partner? Would you let them match you with someone you have never met before… from a different country?

Find your soulmate on AfroRomance

I came across this story of a lady who let her parents choose her spouse for her. Who would have thought that such things still happens in this age and era? Apparently, her parents had an arranged marriage and had never met before. They were matched from different countries (Italy and Britain) and have been together for 36 years.

You think this idea is crazy? Not to the Moonies it aint. Her pals, much as they knew they were part of the Moon’s Unification Church, could never come to terms with the idea of entrusting the one Rev. Moon to match her with someone she didn’t know. What if he don’t speak the same language?

To be matched, the Moonies fill out a questionnaire about themselves and a list is made available to members of other countries. Well this is kind of similar to the profiles people create in online dating. ;-) Once she was done with that a set of parents started inquiring about her. Her parents picked on a man from Spain. A meeting with the parents and husband-to-be was arranged and they were matched - which meant they were engaged.

Their wedding was set one year after they had met in Korea where the church was established. Since the religion didn’t allow kissing or even holding hands before marriage, their wedding night was awkward. Leaping to bed was too big a step so both of them slept in separate rooms. They were separated by church volunteer work and finally reunited in Venice. That was when they shared their first kiss but still no banging. To cut the long story short, they finally consummated their marriage three months later and they just celebrated their forth anniversary.

But don’t you think that the Moonies are big supporters of interracial marriages. Strangers rising above race and distance. What does that say about those of us who can’t even bring themselves to date someone they know and love so much just because of racial differences? This is an amazing story… really. As much as most people are adamant about this cult, I think their interracial marriages are something they should be praised for. Kudos.

You may find these of interest - Mooning Martin Luther King Jr. http://www.mediatransparency.org/story.php?storyID=193 and this is interesting if you are a Christian: http://www.act3online.com/ArticlesDetail.asp?id=272 there are variety of subjects at this link including a list of Moon front groups. You will be surprised if you haven't ever seen it. http://www.freedomofmind.com/resourcecenter/groups/m/moonies/ at the top of this page you will find a short video clip in which a Moon rep will tell you "what the third world war is all about." http://www.mediachannel.org/originals/moontranscript.shtml and here is a BBC documentary which discusses the matching and many other subjects. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2215097044216099155&hl=en

Thanks, Ria and Tad - The perverse personal manipulation in this cult is shown by the completely awkward circumstances and beginning this couple had. It's a testament to the couple that they made it work, in spite of being out of control of the process. I am growing in the interactions I'm having here and would be amazed if anyone were able to pick a mate I'd actually be a good fit for, even when they have carefully read my profile - Though I'm open to any suggestions! Fundamentally, I think that desire to have what we all want and to make it happen is what led this couple to try to make it work. I hope they are happy together - Love does happen.

Moon's ideology - it is not theology, Moon's is a right wing theocratic political movement - says that it is of supreme importance that people practice "exchange" marriage - matching people of different nationalities and races in marriage. Moon says it is absolutely necessary that this happen to create God's (read: Moon's) Kingdom on earth. In fact, Moon matched none of his own kids to anyone but other Koreans. Moon matches people so they have nothing in common but their belief in him. Plainly it is way to control people when that is the base of your marriage. Moon sells himself as being about family values yet the Unification Church has been found guilty of swindling hundreds of millions of dollars from the Japanese, targeting widows. Google "moon spiritual sales japan". See some Moon family values here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdvQGD5Lnsc
