John Legend dedicates emotional 'Never Break' Billboard Music Awards performance to Chrissy Teigen

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when John Legend performed Never Break at the Billboard Music Awards last night.

Dressed in a white suit, the 41-year-old EGOT winner dedicated his emotional performance of Never Break to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, less than two weeks after they announced that they had tragically lost their third baby in the middle of the pregnancy.

"This is for Chrissy,” he said, before giving what we believe to be one of the most heartfelt and emotional performances of his life.

"We will never break/ Built on a foundation/ Strong enough to stay/ We will never break," John Legend sang, as he was very obviously holding back tears.

"As the water rises/ And the mountains shake/ Our love will remain."

After the stunning performance, host Kelly Clarkson had nothing but praise for John’s talent, and also for him and Chrissy Teigen as a couple…

"I want to take a moment to talk about a friend who inspires me on the daily," the 38-year-old BBMA host began.

"Not only as a musician, a songwriter, but as a human.

“John Legend is one of my favorite people on this planet and it's easy for us all to feel that way about them because he and Chrissy just have this warm way of inviting us into their world — the highs and the lows.

"Our hearts go out to you both in this very difficult time and I'm thankful that you continue to share your light and your talent with all of us for the very special performance, possibly my favorite of the night.”

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards were meant to take place in Las Vegas in April earlier this year but were postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. They finally aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on NBC last night.
