Online dating site sheds some festive fat

Posted by Ria, 08 Jan

How would you do if you woke up to find you are no longer a member of your favorite dating site - reason: you had too much of the holiday treaties and the button of your pants just wont give in.

Well, if you are a member of BeautifulPeople.com (a site with the question: "Do you want to guarantee your dates will always be beautiful?" on its homepage) a few extra pounds on you iss ugly – better drop those devouring sugary treaties if you wanna stay on.

Find your soulmate on AfroRomance

The website announced the other day that it deactivated thousands of its members that had gained weight as a PR stunt in a bid to maintain its status as 'the sexiest website in the world.' The spokeswoman for the website Miki Haines said "Five thousand members have been let go… Basically they all posted photographs on the site between November and the New Year, and these photographs were a little less flattering than their previous photos."

PR gimmick or not, why would anyone want to be a member of such a superficial site – a site where the founder Robert Hinze says: “Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model” without even the slightest flinch of a muscle?

Do members of such websites expect to find love? Really

Each to his own I guess (no pun, seriously). Life is supposed to be enjoyed and if someone thinks that he enjoys life by only dating thin people or fat people or muscular people, so be it. Just seems funny to me that one's options should be so limited, but then again that's just me!

Well, there are three compatibilities: physical, situation, personality. Physical is the easiest, but you gotta like your partner's physical. I'm not against beautiful people.com, and I find it ironic that people on this site critize them, as many of us here are on this site *because* of the physical difference between us. So people who live in glass houses...

LOL never ceases to amaze me this internet thing. I guess when you are dealing with something that even the creepiest of creeps can join..you have to expect that. Sometimes weeding out the bad gets exhausting and boring. Since Im a lifetime member (something I really wasnt expecting). I can at least take a break once in a while. Beautifulpeople.com, what a concept!!..lolol I guess UglyBGr8.com will be next and there will be hundreds of thousands of people joining that..lolol. Well heres to an interesting 2010!!

Well that site caters to "beautiful" people, but who's idea of beauty. Some people like the larger size. If a person is only looking on the outside of a person for love, then good luck with that. I think however love of a person should look at the inside as well. Sometimes it's those little inside quirks that makes a person fall in love and one can't see that in a picture.

I found it to be funny...good PR I guess...everyone is talking about it..so mission acomplished. As for the site..there's many a speciality dating site on the internet..take this one for example which caters to the IR crowd..there many based on religion..region..sexual orientation...cheaters...BBW..ect...so why not one specifically for superficials? If you don't have what they want..don't join. Saff

It just goes to show that some people live by shallow principles, but I kind of applaud them because they are at least being honest and true to what they believe in. It is a bit disappointing to find the same traits being displayed in normal dating sites by a few people who are so vain. Yes, it happen and it is sad.

For some people, looks are everything. If this your thinking, then good luck with that. Looks and money can fade, but nice doesn't. Truth be told, we like what we like and no one wants to date someone their friends/family would consider the equivalent to the back end of a bus. Although, saying that, be true to yourself, if you like the "model" look whatever that may be - go for it, you'll be doing yourself a favour and not leading on those of us who do not match up to your idea of what is aesthetically pleasing. Personality counts for a lot, but in order to discover what's inside, one has to get past what is on the outside. Don't get me wrong, I like good looking men, who are tall with a fit body and amazing eyes. In conjunction, they should also have a pleasing personality - maybe I'm asking for a lot, maybe not, sometimes, looks can be subjective - the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" springs to mind. If you think you're hot enough, good luck in search on that site, if you're deemed not, then we'll be seeing you shortly...

As the saying goes, "Birds of a feather..." anyone who subscribes to and supports such a site deserves the shallow and superficial relationships they are bound to find there.
