U.S. born Latinos are more likely to marry interracially

Posted by Juan, 04 May

The growth of the Latino population in the U.S. has really grown over the years. Apparently, they are the fastest growing population which is linked to immigration and high fertility rates. According to the Pew research, the U.S. population rose by about 2.2 million individuals between 2016 and 2017. And 51% of the rise were Latinos.

A study led by a sociology professor and research associate at Brown University’s Population Studies and Training Center, Zhenchao Qian, looked into the marriage patterns of Latinos leaving in the U.S. They scholars studied U.S. born Latinos against those who migrated. They also looked at how income, level of education and the racial diversity of the neighborhood might influence their marriage patterns.

What came out of the study

Apparently, more than 60% of the Hispanics that were studied identified as Caucasian. The darker skinned ones said to be of "other" race or chose more than one racial groups.

As for interracial marriages, U.S. born Hispanics often married out of their race as compared to those who immigrated who are less likely to intermarry. 35% of the U.S. born Latinos  are married to a non-Latino.

Those Latino men with higher levels of education, the college level, were more likely to be in an interracial relationship as opposed to those who have a high school diploma.

When it comes to women, senior women were more likely to marry interracially. This showed that older Latino women cast a wider net when looking for spouses. Also, those latino women with jobs often marry interracially.

So basically, it seems that diversity plays a great role in influencing people's choices I guess. Since those U.S. born Latinos were exposed to divergence at an early age, they will definitely find it easier to date and marry outside the Hispanic cultures. At the same time, those who have a college education are also exposed to people of various ages during their peak years of dating.

There you have it. What do you think?

“U.S. born Latinos are more likely to marry interracially” BS!!! Latinos, U.S. born or not, typically stay among their own language speaking kind. Puerto Ricans ARE Americans by default and they stay among other Spanish speakers. I don’t know where you got this blatant lie of a story but you better go out more and see for yourself. If anything, Latino MEN will go for a white woman. But Latinas.... hahahahaha! It’s very rare to see Latinas with white men. They’re either with other Spanish speaking men or (some cases) black men. Especially in the ghettos where everyone has something in common: thug life and rap music. Please stop these fake stories.

With so many flavors to choose from, why choose to be salty?
