What isn't racial about this interracial couple's murder?

interracial couple murderShe was raped in their home! They were tortured for hours. Then murdered! Much as it happened years back (October 15, 2008), I still have that… (for lack of a phrase that would exactly describe how I feel) bad taste in my mouth.

This gruesome ordeal happened to a young interracial couple - Jan Pawel Pietrzak, 24, Polish American and Quiana Jenkins Pietrzak, 26, African American, in their home located near the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (where Pietrzak worked), in Winchester, Carlifornia. The two were newlyweds of like two months … still honeymooners.

Lemme back up a little… paint the horrid picture for you…

Four African American Marines (Lance Cpl. Emrys John of Maryland, Lance Cpl. Kesuan Sykes of California, Pvt. Kevin Darnell Cox of Tennessee, and Lance Cpl. Tyrone Miller of North Carolina) -two of whom worked under Pietrzak - force entry into this interracial couple’s home by pointing a short gun at him. After a short battle, they tie and gag the couple. Then these ruthless SOBs rape Jenkins and force the hubby to watch the defilement. Then they torture the couple for a number of hours before putting bullets in both of their heads. Oh! Did I forget to mention EXECUTION STYLE? Then the suspects set the house ablaze to destroy evidence.

Fortunately, the authorities still managed to collect evidence that linked these rogue marines to the murders. Each of the four suspects accused the other three for the rape with three of them ratting out Emrys John as the triggerman who put the young couple out the torture misery by shooting them in the back of their heads.

CNN television news journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell raised the question of the crime being racially motivated. In the report she mentioned: “The four suspects are African-American. The woman who was murdered is African-American. Her husband is white. Is there a racial motive here that authorities are looking into? Because you can't just say it's about money when there's sexual assault.” Despite that, Riverside County authorities maintained that the main motivation was robbery and that the rape and murder (“with special circumstances” they call it), do not necessarily mean the crime was racially motivated.

In early November, 2008, the charges still stood as murder under special circumstances (murder during commission of a felony, murder during commission of a robbery and committing more than one offense) and rape.

Efforts by the media claiming the attack was a race crime bore no fruits. The District Attorney Rod Pacheco kept stressing it was robbery saying: "To burglarize their home and then to treat them in the way they did before they died and to murder them — it's hard for our minds to comprehend this kind of savagery."

Lets review some of the facts of the case:

  1. John posted on his Myspace page the caption "Chillin waitin 4 da killin" just before the killings which shows the murders were premeditated.

  2. The couple was murdered EXECUTION STYLE.

  3. On the wall near the couple’s master bedroom and bathroom mirror were graffiti racial remarks “Nigger Lover”.

Isn’t that enough evidence to prove racial motivation? Not according to the prosecutors. In April 2009, even after the above evidence had been presented in court, they still alleged that the motivation was financial… not racial simply because Riverside County investigator Benjamin Ramirez attested to having recovered the couple’s property (bank cards, a bracelet with the couple's names written in Polish, and Pietrzak's dress blue uniform) in Miller’s residence and that Miller had carried out other burglaries and home invasions before.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Judith Clark ordered the four defendants to be tried for the murders of the Pietrzaks on August 12, 2009.

But… sad thing – there will never be closure for the families of the slain, knowing too well in their minds that this was all racially motivated and not financial because according to the relatives, they were far from rich. And even if some of their possessions were found at one of the defendants residence, who can’t see he took them because they were useless to the couple dead anyways?

If the justice system that is supposed to protect us refuses to see things for what they really are, choosing to look ONLY at one side of the coin, who is protecting interracial couples then?

    Originally I felt that there may have been a racial hate aspect to this crime however after reading all sorts of postings, blogs n news on this, I feel that a hate crime this certainly was, but not necessarily racial. I do think the face factor most likely was incidental. The hatred part was both economically oriented and somehow morphed into blind anger when the pigs found out the Marine Sgt and his wife werent loaded(wasnt he due a re-enlistment bonus?) Factor in that one of the pigs was a subordinate under the sgt's command and had problems wth him. Listen-I may be wrong...but whatever the motivation(s), those vile creatures deserve to die.     Sadly, this kind of hate and bitterness exist's...so much so that the legal system and those governing it refuse to believe what was right in front of their faces. May their soul's dwell in a merciful place as their love was so pure it was no longer ment for this world. May their families find some level of peace, and some good emerge from this ugliness. May we all find love and hold it close, so as to honor of that young, beautiful and tragic couple.

    That was a sick and sadistic act against a beautiful couple and I hope that justice will prevail and those perpetrators being given the death penalty....because they don't deserve to live....and they won't be on the street to do that to another couple. We better learn to accept the right of all men and women to date whom they choose. Fundamentally we are all the same....just a different covering.....GOD BLESS the souls of Pawel and Quiana Pietrzak

    This is such a sad, tragic, and senseless crime, and it breaks my heart to know that fellow Marines would commit such heinous acts against one of their own and his wife!! I live in a military city, and the thought of such a horrific act makes me sick!! Such a lovely couple.....may they rest in peace together.

    Lets face it America was invaded on violence so it is no wonder you have horrific crimes like these committed by both black and white people. I always laugh at the idea of the death penalty. Once a human being is determined to carry out such a brutal and evil crime like this the death penalty is pretty much useless as a deterrent. I just think interracial couples are vulnerable like any other same color couple. However to suggest this is racially motivated is hard to say. Many white criminal gangs have done the same to white couples and black criminal gangs to black couples. Also whilst I sympathize with the family of this fine couple many of the AR members should realize especially for a hypocritical bible bashing deluded country like the USA that executing scum like these for 4 men is not going to bring the couple back.

    I do remember hearing about this, I was deployed at the time though. To think that such hatred still exists in this world. We have spent many long years trying to overcome the racial barrier, even going so far as to date outside our race, something that would have been grounds for lynching a black man 30 or even 40 years ago. Yet for 4 black men to ruin and destroy the lives of a promising couple in this manner, then for the prosecution to refuse to call it what it is, is absurd. Makes me wonder why I am serving this country still. A fellow service member, a Marine, murdered with his new wife. It doesn't matter the color of the skin but the love of the heart. These four monsters took all that away that sad day. I say, don't gas em as that would be too expensive. Rather, let them be executed by their peers the way they executed this couple, with a bullet to the back of the head, much cheaper over all.

    This story is awful! While in the Active Duty Navy, one of the BEST relationships that I ever had was with someone of another race. My prayers go out to the loved ones of this terrible crime.

    Yes, I think it was a racial thing. All I date is black men and I have been in situations that both blacks and white people did not like it. People think that we bleed a different color if we date another race. This really hits home and I hope that those sons of b...... fry for this. What they were jealous that a white guy got the pretty black woman?

    when he sneaks into your thoughts and plants an evil seed..then sits back to see whether or not you noticed what he did. If you act on it without thinking...man! what a jig he dances!! But if you practice hearing God's voice...then you will instantly recognize the voice of Satan..and you can turn and face him...and tell him straight up...be gone from me! I KNOW it was YOU that put that evil thought in my head, and I will NOT do your bidding!     The "why" of ANY horrific deed, word, or thought has a very simple answer...that individual was acting on the true beastial nature of man....with no knowledge of God's Holy Spirit that dwells within ALL of us!! That knowledge...or lack of it...makes all the difference! Satan's power over mankind lies in his masterful ability to disguise himself and remain in the shadows of our minds and hearts....he isn't called the "Prince of Darkness" for nothing! The fools who do his bidding here on earth often don't have a clue as to the "why" that they did some of the evil things that they did. Until a person comes to the realization that, if God is real and truly exists as the source of all that is good, and all that is love.....then Satan, as the source of all evil, is just as real. His purpose is to deceive us into believing that what he offers is what we need. He caters to our weaknesses and uses any of his available means...lust, greed, anger, jealousy, discouragement, doubt, ignorance,... oh yeah, ...and hate....to get us to destroy ourselves. Why? Because we are all God's children, and He loves every single one of us! God is pained when he sees his children tormented and deceived by The Evil One...who delights in the horror and confusion he has created. Think about that bigger picture next time you hear about something that makes you ask the question...."How could God ever allow something like THAT to happen?" I don't believe that God actually PLANS for evil, or pain, or suffering to enter our lives. He loves us too much to hurt us. Our lives here on earth are preparing us for an eternity in God's Holy Family. Natural disasters are a by-product of the consequences we suffer as a result of Adam's sin, when he and Eve were banished from the perfection of the Garden of Eden. No more perfect weather!! And folks, those young men who so willingly did the devil's work, will one day see their true God. You may not agree, but if those men have confessed themselves to Him, and truly sought forgiveness for their unspeakable evil...He will surely forgive them... On the other hand, should they fail in achieving a knowledge of God and His love in their lives..they are surely doomed. Choosing to follow God's plan for our lives is HARD. You have to be constantly vigilant not only for your opportunities to do HIS work while we're here on earth...but you also have to ALWAYS know that Satan is lurking about (within our hearts/minds) and waiting for an impulsive moment when you are unguarded.     OMG,this kind of crime happened every where.In the past,it was white people doin it now he doesn't matter. I think we all have issue with difference but some of us can control it and respect others.Unfortunately we are on earth some people have to born and some have to die ( the wrong way must of the time).     My heart just breaks, breaks, breaks. I never even heard of this. It's just so sad. What would motivate someone sit down and concoct ways to hurt another person that hasn't done anything to you? I just don't get it. This poor couple had probably been through the wire (all the hiccups with merging families not to talk of the haterade that just comes with being an interracial couple), worked on their own differences and decided to get married. They had just started their life together for Heaven's sake! Why would anybody do this? I'm just crying and getting more upset. May their loving souls rest in peace. Lord God receive them.

    Its a trip how there could be four individuals from different area and probably with different backgrounds, willing to commit such a crime, as they where all on crack or belong to some Satan's club ,,,,,, wouldn't at some points at least one of them admit to they motives for the crime ?     Sad fact of the matter is: According to the liberal narrative, only whites can be racists; others are simply victims of the White man's vile hatred. This myopic view dismisses the fact that racism is a HUMAN condition, to which all people are susceptible. The tenents of racism are segregation, stereotype, supremacy, discrimination and prejudice.     I have to agree with a j ville guy when you are dating interracially you have to be aware of your surroundings at all times when you go to store a restaurant or wherever you will know when something is not right the sad thing is we live in a great country but some other people are less than desirable and that is being very mild with it. Outside of the united states people are not stuck on stupid it just seems that it is more prevalent here in the united states as opposed to canada or france or great britain. I am on the heels of a white female and I am african american and she turns out to be the 1 that I marry then so be it May god have mercy on anyone or anything that stands in our way. I will be happy my wife will be happy and I'll family will be happy we will abide by them boys off every state in the union but we will refuse to be pickups I love mankind but I hate. Demons I will protect myself my wife and my family at all costs. And that is all I am going to say on that. I am so sick and at heart at what happened to that couple may they have no memory of what happened to them in this sick country we are all living in

    Correct me if i am wrong, don't they want it to not be typed as racial crime because the punishment would be less. According to another story of a black woman captured and tortured, racial crimes has a lesser punishment than the actual nature of the crime.

    The Pietrzaks were a lovely couple with their lives, love, and the promise of children ahead of them. Now they are a married couple in eternity. The barbarians who took all that away from them deserve the ultimate penalty, nothing less regardless of the motive. Albeit slow, justice will come for the Pietrzaks and their families.

    The unfortunate reality is there are instances that happen that are less severe in nature that never make national or even regional news. One of my HS classmates (african american) was attacked at a party by jealous co-workers because he was dating an attractive white woman that worked at the same company and had apparently turned them down for a date at different times. When they saw here with my classmate they decided to teach him a lesson and beat him with sticks and bats causing permament brain damage. I have to admit I was under a great deal of pressure from my family to stop dating outside my race because of what happened to him. But like many have stated before me, I refuse to live my life in fear and be bullied into not dating someone. I will say this though there are some hateful people out there and you MUST be aware of your surroundings at all times. Make eye contact with people - the eyes are the windows to the soul and they NEVER lie. If you get a bad vibe off some one when out on a date, don't just merely dismiss it, keep your eye on them, make sure you don't put yourself in a position to be a victim. It's not about being paranoid, but you have to be aware. Truly sad story. There's a special place in hell for those cowards.

    I agree with MGM62. Any murder is a hate crime, no matter what race the victim(s) or the perpetrator(s). I stumbled upon this case on the internet by chance. I don't recall hearing anything about it around the time it occured. Considering the brutality and horrificness I don't understand why it did not get more press. I live in the Los Angeles area, not far from where it occured. Lovely young couple should be enjoying their lives together, maybe even having children. How does one find it to feel any mercy for the murderers. Death would be letting them off too easy. They should rot in prison.

    God , stories like that put me on all my states!! Why would motivate a human being to hurt another one !? Why do they need to rape , torture and god knows what else they did to kill them at the end!? There is no excuses for that kind of acts but only God can judge! Sometimes death is a priviledge for people like that ! They should be released and they will die of sorrows , cause they expect hate and even death from everyone but if they are forgiven ( I know it is hard, forgiving is divine) , that will kill them . All my love and support go to the couple families . I am deeply sorry for your losts.

    I've dated IR since my teens when I fell in love with a girl who was Black. Her family and she taught me so many more good things than my own family even imagined. Over the years, I've been called the "8" lover. I hate that damn word and don't allow it in my presence and confront anyone who says it, even Black people. It's my opinion that Black people who habitually use it are thus who are insulting to their own peoplle and don't have the intelligence and/or decency to even attempt to learn differently. I've had actually fistfights over it because I take it as an insult of the woman I happen to be with. I don't care what someone calls me butt, do NOT insult my woman. I'm also an ex navy guy and would truly enjoy exposing these punks to some of the traps the VC had in Nam. They need to die a slow painful death.

    I am so freakin sick and tired or the term "hate crime." In my book all crimes of violence are done with some level of hate involved. To me to list on crime as a hate crime and to treat it as more horrific is just belittling the same crime against someone else. Example, say your best friend got murdered by an unknown assailant in a random robbery. Is that any less or more or a crime than the above story? NO, they are all dead due to a murder and should be treated equally. We hear so much talk about equality but some much legislation on make special laws that don't treat all people and events equally.

    I agree with Glock, reverse racial/hate crimes occur all the time, but hardly ever is heard of. What is worse is that I live in California, have since 2002. I reside in the county and currently live within walking distance of Winchester, CA and never heard of this occurring. Being a prior military service member. It is guaranteed the military has taken care of this matter (hence the reason why so few knew or heard about it) and these guys will be dealt with accordingly.

    So often is the case that crimes involving blacks committing the crime and white as victims do not get considered as "hate crimes" as are true in reverse. This case does not surprise me, nor have I haven't even heard of it until today....3 years after it was committed.

    Wow ..... It's said to hear of Crimes like these. Although we know that there is the still the issue of Race and Racists out there. When reading something like this, just makes you realize how "narrow minded" these people can be. I just can't get how Humans(put race aside) can treat fellow humans like this.     These were Marines not soldiers. I know a lot of people may wonder what is the difference. Believe me. There is a big difference. Another thing, this wonderful and loving cople did not live near Mira Mar Air Station. They live further north in Riverside county. Miramar is in San Diego county. This was just FYI. Now my feelings on the matter. Those pukes, (for I will not call them Marines) for that is a title held truly for quality men and women, and not for low pieces of CRAP like these maggots. Real Marines would never do something so horrible to anyone. Especially another Marine. My heart just went out to this couple. They will never know the intensity of their love and the world will never know or see the foot prints of their children born from their love. Why? Because of four maggots that for what ever reason decided to take their lives. I don't understand why some (not all) black men will fround upon black women dating outside of our race, but they can date anything that moves whether in or outside of our race. Mind you I said SOME black men. There are some black men that are like a lot of us, date who you want. To me what evereyone should do is mind their damn business. Maybe if they would look just beyound their noses, they will see a complete different world. Use their minds for other things besides storing hate in there. Talk about a mind being a terrible thing to waste. Oh yeah the latest thing that was in the news was one of the maggots was in court at his trial and took out his "thingy" and pissed all over the court room. Honest. This was in the Marine Corps Times (a news paper). You know why he did that! The fricking coward wants everyone to think he is crazy and will try to get out of the death penalty. Well my theory on that matter. If he is found to be crazy (and he is not, just playing the system) just put the maggot out of his misery. If he is crazy, fry his a-s and be done with it. He would never know the difference. The world would be a better place and it would be a win-win situation for everyone. By the way, make his buddies sit on his lap.

    I remember this story also and it is one of the things that makes me nervous/cautious about dating outside of my race. Again with the double standards of black men can date who they want but just dont let a black woman do it. Very sad!

      I served in the Navy. I have seen many Marines and those criminals that killed that lovely couple shame the Marine Corps and all service members who would not dream of doing such an act. I am responding to takeallofme to let her know that she is right to be nervous but she should still date whoever she wants to. Make no mistake underneath the robbery aspect, the message was punishment, humiliation and rage toward the couple for even being together. That makes it racial. I think this because they could have just robbed the couple and then killed them to keep from being identified. Do what you feel most comfortable with, knowing that everyone else may or may not like it. The worst I have ever got was some snide comments and looks. Be on guard but do what you want and be happy,

      If you want to date outside of your race do it. I love myself just fine, but I date white men who are intelligent, respectful and attracted to me. The face gets you in the door but the character stamps the ticket for me. Now there are plenty of Black Men who have these qualities too, and I have gone on one or two dates with great men in this group. But I have to be honest ,they have attractive qualities, but my feelings do not rise to the level of where a romantic partner should be. Since I have known this from when I was 10,(I'm 48) I do what feels right for only me. I'd rather be alone and honest then partnered and both of us very unhappy. If you are attracted to whoever, let them know it and go forward boldly. Make no excuses to anybody. Peace.

      This is a very sad story, and is my first time reading it.I do pray for the family and that they stay strong in the Lord. I do believe that this is hatred.Sometime some people see that you are doing good with your mate and get angry,upset,whatever. I don't know if the world will ever change,but I WANT TO DATE AND MARRY A WHITE MAN.

    I remember reading about this story right when it hit the radio and media outlets online. I don't think there is a soul on this planet that isn't touched by this type of nonsense. All men tried should be gassed. Shotgun007

    My heart is breaking.........I can only speculate that this men received a warm welcome in entering this couple's home. After laughs this sadistic act took place. These type of cases make one wish for the death penalty. To ensure justice is done, a televised Hassan Hanging or Fire Range is ideal. Wait, maybe 2 part sequencing the firing range hits a vital organ, but they are left still alive; aware of their going thru the 2nd phase a beheading or electric chair. Turn hungry lions on them 1 by 1 let them experience how hard this family fought for their lives. Soorry I went off here, but these men sickens me.

    It was a blantant attempt by the black soldiers to mislead investigators to white soldiers setting it up as a racially motivating hate crime. Unfortunately it is true that black males hate to see their sisters with white males even when they are not interested in them their selves. It was an act of jealousy and hate. For the men to be so bold to do this to their superior, he must have been considered nice man who perhaps gushed about his love for his wife. Bc he was so nice these men felt they could push him around. I hate cowards like them of any ethnic group. These men may have had white girlsfriends. I don't know why some men act so irrational- racism is a sickness. Ignorance is a growing epidemic that cause a disease of the mind. For ones who are involved in a relationship, inter ethnic or not, take precautions to protect your love ones. Learn safety measures to protect yourself and love ones. All the single ladies too! Take an active stand to fight back crime, learn personal safety. There a lot of envious ppl in the world.

    This is a tragic case, no matter what the racial circmstances were. It is hard to say what the motives were behind this horrid crime. But there are a number of identifiable offenses that are staggering in their horror. These were soldiers, who are required by their commitment to live and uphold words such as "Honor" and "Valor". The very basis of a soldiers existence is of protection first, and engagement a secondary alternative. How men like this were allowed to serve in our military is an insult to all the soldiers who live to embrace the values they protect is a serious question that needs answering. The fact that two of the accused murderers worked underneath their victim promotes the theory that the violence may have been partially motivated by those circumstances. The racial writings on the wall were a clear attempt to mislead an investigation away from African American involvement, and there very well may have been a bias amoung the killers against Anglo Americans and/or Inter-racial relationships. Hate Crime? I do not know if it was motivated by race in any way. Although it may easily be interpeted as racially motivated. What is clear is that there was obviously a hatred within these men to commit such a horrific crime, and that alone qualifies this as a Hate Crime, and a special circumstances case. As a white man involved in an Inter-racial relationship, I am aware of predjudices on both sides of the line. I can not and will not allow that to interfere with the love I share with my partner. But that awareness prohibits a hightened sense of potential troubles that may come our way due to others lack of elevated reasoning regarding the racial make up of a couple, of of race in general. And that awareness serves us well. Unfortunately, that awareness crosses the racial lines applicible to this story, as there are bad people who will harm others simply due to the ease of it. We must all be aware of, and on the lookout for the evil of this world, but we must not let it shape our lives to the extent that we do not seek the beauty and glory of this life.

    I remember this story, and because it was black men that wrote N***er lover to mask it as white men. I think things changed. Maybe the defense took it as them hiding the true crime, and if it was actually white men it would have been considered a hate crime. No matter what their whole life will be behind bars. I wish we lived in a world where people would leave people alone in their happiness, but I know wishes never come true. This is sad, but not the only incident. If you research online you will find many others. Just as many gay interracial couples have problems. I am not gay, but sympathize with others in the same boat.

      I remember this story very well also and I think about it often. I'm always confused by black men saying how ugly black women are and that they don't want us, yet some try to intimidate BW/WM couples. If they don't care, why the need to say something and criticize BW/WM couples (at times even when they're with their non BW)? This crime was so horrific and this country can be filled with so much hatred that it's unbelieveable. I agree, people need to leave others alone in their happiness. It's so strange that you hear about children being abused (physically or worse) and women in domestic violence situations and when the perp. is arrested neighbors say they knew about it, but felt it wasn't their business, yet people make things like this their business. What a world we live in!

    This story hits home and breaks my heart.! Sad to say but maybe playing up the robbery angle and not making this a hate crime carrys a heavier sentence in thier state, It could be the difference between life in prison and the death penalty. I'm all for the death penalty in this case ! What a betrayal( I can't belive that military men would do this) this is shocking!This couple deserves justice. May they rest in peace! They really looked beautiful together!! This happened due to pure jealousy , if any of those men had a significant other in their lives that gave a damn about them, maybe they would have been with her, instead of out killing people!
